Summary:

Would you spend ten days traveling the country with someone you despised if he promised to pay off your student loans?

Recent college graduate, Harper Leigh, can barely make ends meet working as the books editor for a new online entertainment magazine, Chatter. With $85,000 of student loan debt about to go into repayment, she has no idea how she’ll get by.

Just when she thinks things couldn’t get worse, Harper’s boss decides to embed her in the North American tour for the hot rock band, Always Rayne. Ten days on the road with the band for her to get an exclusive story. But Harper’s a homebody and the last thing she wants to do is go on the road with a rock band. And she definitely doesn’t want to spend ten days with the notorious bad boy and band front man, Nic Rayne.

When Nic proves to be too much for Harper to handle and she threatens to quit the assignment, Nic decides to sweeten the pot. If she stays with the tour for all ten days, he’ll pay off all of her student loan debt….but there’s one small catch.

Harper also has to sleep in his bed every night.

My Thoughts:

This is one of the rare times that my opinion on the story is not nearly the same as others (i.e. those on Goodreads-- 4.27 stars). (This book doesn't get a "In my own words" summary because the book summary pretty much outlines anything that I would've said).

This book was just kinda like an eh, whatever as I was reading. Nothing really piqued my interest (other than the catch for the debt repayment, though it doesn't really work).

I mainly felt like the story wasn't worked as much as it possibly could have. I liked the outline, but I have to admit that I did not like how it was colored in. The characters weren't fleshed out enough and what we did know of them didn't make them seem all that great.

The characters didn't really cause an emotional response in me (other than a mild annoyance, like, the MC cried A LOT. I wanted to punch her out sometimes). In fact, I felt more for Leo, Xander, and Raven than I did for the MC and Nic (I would actually be tempted to read the story about Raven, but I don't know if I could do it). The MC even came off as a judgmental little nag (in fact, when we're introduced to her, she's kinda naggy with her roommate).

Next, the sentences were very short. They were choppy. And they could've been turned into full sentences. (see what I did there?) It caught my attention too often, pulling me away from the story.

Finally, it really seemed like this story was more based on lust than any type of romance. I really felt like it was all headed to her being with him than them being emotionally together (oh, man, did that read as cheesy as it sounded in my head)? I also have a bone to pick with the Nic character. If he likes her so much, then why was he still with those two other girls? Harper's reaction to it (although, admittingly passive-aggressive) seemed understandable in the situation.

Oh, and as a little side note, I liked how the author made her name "Harper Leigh" for "Harper Lee" and that she didn't do that one think that would be expected of her since she has that specific thing. If I was her, I wouldn't have done it either (but it was sort of required in my old high school).

As you all may have noticed, I really didn't have many good things to say about this book. Yep, that's right, this book gets a low score. The only thing keeping it from a 1 is that it has the music them and that I liked what the outline could've been. (But, as we say: Would've, could've, should've. But didn't.) I just have to say: I was very disappointed, and this book got 2 hearts.
